Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections

• Government of India approved the Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) Connections.

• Effective from 1 September 2026.

• Objective: Expand household PNG connections and promote clean, safe and affordable cooking fuel.

• India currently has 1.74 crore domestic PNG connections.

• City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies will be encouraged to:

  • Convert unbilled PNG connections into active connections.

  • Expand PNG networks to new areas.

• Incentive: 200 SCM of lower-priced domestically produced APM gas for every incremental billed domestic PNG connection.

• Incentive will be provided above the threshold fixed for each Geographical Area.

• Implementation will take place in two tranches over six months.
